2016 Artist Statement
My name is Ashley Moffatt, and I am currently a Junior student at Allen High School. My interest and passion for fine art is rooted through my genetics. My late grandmother was a hobbyist painter, and was an inspiration to me as a child. My father is also a hobbyist, and he encourages me at home. In my elementary years, my creativity and interest sparked, but I became serious about art in the sixth grade. Through my middle school years, junior high, and even still, I have been exploring different mediums and styles to figure out my identity as an artist.
I draw because it lets me express myself in the best way that I know how. Art allows me to escape reality into my little world, and it makes me happy. Art helps me find out who I am, and who I want to be. To me, art is a release, a hobby, and a need. It is my passion and purpose, an activity that I will uphold until the day that I die. My works reflect who i am, my ideas, my feelings, and the things that I stand for. For these reasons, I took advanced art classes and intend to further extend my future education in art.

2017 Musician Statement
As well as my passion for art, I also find passion in music; it has largely contributed to my artwork. I have been a musician all my life: playing guitar, keyboard, recorder, and flute in my elementary years. In the sixth grade, I formally became a member of the Allen band, starting on flute. Transitioning to being an oboist, I became more serious about music in eighth grade, participating in honors band. I further pursued my musical interests by participating in marching band on Alto Saxophone my freshman year. Finally, I also became an English Horn player/ Oboist for varsity band my sophomore year, as well as an addition to the UIL full orchestra.
My family and friends have always been inspiration and support to me- I played guitar with my dad, recorder with my peers, keyboard and flute with my sister, and on my primary instruments I have made dear friends within my sections. I would define 2015 as my breakthrough year with my music- I ran into extraordinary extra credit opportunities at my high school and worked in a setting surrounded by other student talent that made my improvement to thrive. Being my year of most significant improvement, my passion as a musician has finally come to match that of my art career- influencing my work in a more positive light.
I play a multitude of instruments because music also serves as a hobby, expression, release, escape, and an alternative way to channel my creativity as an artist. Primarily as an oboist, I intend to create music at least through college, and throughout the rest of my life.
